The Royal Show got in the way again!

For me, early September is all about the Adelaide Royal Show. I show and breed dogs, Schnauzers and Pharaoh Hounds, so if I'm not showing them, I'm looking at them and doing some personal judging of the stock myself.
This year we didn't have any Schnauzers to show, but we did show two of our Pharaohs. We also had our first ever adult house guest - Helen come over from NSW to show four of her Pharaohs and her Lakeland Terrier. I was a little concerned before she arrived, because I'd never actually met her before, and also because my housewife skills are almost nonexistent. But it turned out great.
Helen smoke a lot and drinks a lot and she was so much fun to be around. Her dogs and our dogs didn't get up close and personal, just barked at each other, and Helen worked harder on grooming her little terrier than I though was possible. It worked though - she got best of breed Lakeland and Pharaoh and her dogs looked fantastic.
Helen also put my baby Schnauzer up on the grooming table one afternoon and groomed her a bit too.
And then Helen decided we were having a girly afternoon in and she sat me down and cut and coloured my hair for me. It was the most fun, and now my hair is short and a different colour and I love it. Thank you to Helen. I missed out on that stuff when I was a teenager - I didn't do the hairstyling stuff and makeup and consequently, now at 45 years of age, I'm still a bit clueless about these girly things. But my hair looks great at the moment and Helen might come over again next year for the royal, so she can do my hair again!
Helen went home briefly from our place and then headed off for the Melbourne Royal show, where she got Best of Breed again with the same dog - well done Cal and Helen. Helen takes her dog showing much more seriously than I do.
The saddest thing for us about the Royal this year was having one of our dogs bring home Kennel Cough. So we've been listening to our coughing hounds and giving them a bit of cough medicine. The first one seems to be on the mend, but I think we've still got a couple of weeks of coughing from the other dogs. And now I can't take any of my dogs anywhere, they're under quarantine. I wish the person at the Royal had kept their dog at home!
Fortunately little Jenne isn't too badly affected. I was worried she'd come down worse than the others, but she seems fine apart from having that horrible cough - nothing wrong with her energy or her appetite!
