Good Night, Sleep Tight, Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite

July 21st 2009 03:30
A common night time rhyme for when you tuck the kids into bed, but there’s more to it than that. Bed Bugs have been around for a long time. They can cause unsightly and itchy marks. Bad bites can form wheals that fade in time. To find out more about the pest, visit Orkin, they have all the information you need about bed bugs and other little pests that can invade your home.

The bite can feel like a slight burning sensation at first, then the itching sets in. If you’re wondering if bed bugs may be the cause of your itches and rashes, check for signs of the bed bugs – dark brown or black marks on sheets, or a sweet but unattractive smell.

Bed bugs live mostly in temperate regions, but there are some bed bugs that favour more tropical regions. The bite they give is painful, but the good thing about bed bugs is they don’t seem to carry diseases, as some other bugs do, like mosquitoes for instance.

If you’ve been bitten night after night, by bed bugs you might not care about whether of not they can give you another disease, you just want them to stop biting. Unfortunately bed bugs are very small, and thin and hide very well in bedding, nooks and crannies.

And the bad news is, even though they seem like something from the olden days, the numbers are on a steep increase. Some scientists think this is due to humans getting around the world so much. Bed bugs can be in someone’s clothing and hitch a ride with them overseas.

There are some old wives tales of getting rid of bed bugs by wrapping bedding in black plastic. This is a myth that has been busted. The best way to rid your home of bedbugs, if you have them, is to call in the pest controllers.

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday, just after I had posted this piece. Colleen has been bitten, and she says the bites really hurt. For Colleen to say that, they must have been extremely bad. I'm glad we don't have any where we live.
