Connecting with Cars
July 6th 2009 01:02
I was looking at a website last week, and I think I may have finally found something I can show to my fifteen year old son that he won’t look at me and raise his eyebrows. Cars are right up there on Jake’s agenda now, he’s looking forward to getting his driver’s license and being let loose on the open road. The website has lots of pics of cars and lots on info about cars. Jake understands what the info means, I tend to think about what colours are available.
I dream of the day I become best-selling writer and I can become a bmw driver/owner. I guess I should get on with writing my werewolf novel, I guess. Partly written pieces don’t get published.
We have organised a car for my son, complements of his grandmother, but he still likes looking at cars, in real life or on the screen. I don’t have quite the same feelings about cars. I just want to get from A to B in relative comfort, and if the car looks cute, well that’s an added extra. I like some of the cars that kia are putting out, some real cuties there, but Jake tells me there’s more to it than that. I like the look of the Kia Rio, I think my sister-in-law has one. She’s a groovy older lady and likes the finer things, as long as they’re affordable too!
Our family are Holden people. We are Australian and we love football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars. Fords are not a favoured vehicle, but every now and then I see a nice ford and get a guilty feeling of pleasure when I smile at it.
A friend of mine has a little sporty ford something or other that she got from America. It is one cool little car, lovely leather inside and it’s forest green. I might be willing to swap, but I’m very sure Sue wouldn’t be interested. I don’t blame her – my car is a cute little cheapy, hers is dollars on wheels. I think Jake would like my friend’s car, so that’s one thing we can agree on!

I drive a Holden Barina and I'm getting quite good at coping with the manualness of it (haven't stalled it for ages).
Our other car is a Holden Adventra, all wheel drive station wagon, dirt road or rougher, no problems at all. And there's a DVD in the back seat. Jake definitely wanted us to get the DVD. Lots of space in the back of the wagon for dogs and stuff.
Love it.
So tell, dearest, what do you drive?
