Dog Names for show dogs

September 10th 2008 01:54
I breed pure bred dogs, and so Dog names are very important to me. My breeds are Standard Schnauzers and Pharaoh Hounds. The kennel name my husband and I chose back in 1989 was Holkschter.

We bred our first Standard Schnauzer litter that year, and needed a kennel prefix, so we had to think hard about the name we wanted our kennel to be known by. My husband is a Professional Wrestling fan, so obviously we knew the name Hulk Hogan very well - he was at his top around that era, and he had lots of fans he called Hulksters.

So, we got thinking. We needed several names to present to the Canine authorities. We must have been in a silly mood, so for one of the names we thought - We were Hulksters how about we try geramanizing that name (the schnauzer is a german breed), for our Kennel name? Our first choice was actually Pine Bank, but the authorities deemed that too similar to another Kennel Prefix, so we ended up with our second choice - HOLKSCHTER.

We also decided to name our litters alphabetically, to me it easier to remember which pup was from which litter. And because my husband and I are not boring ordinary people who always do the obvious, we decided to start at Z and work back towards A. my favourite pup and favourite name from that litter was Zeitgeist. She was the sweetest girl who showed for us for a while and then went on to a much deserved life of leisure in a pet home.

From out most recent litter - Standard Schnauzers - We have Holkschter Je Ne Sais Quoi, who we call Jenne for her pet name. Jenne is at the cusp of her show career, and I hope her name will be on the lips of all of our competitors in the coming months. Jenne is so cute and so special.

My favourite name out of the many puppies we've bred is probably Holkschter So Sumi - Sumi to her loving owner. Sumi was a very special girl and was Rosie's best friend when times weren't so good. Sumi only had a couple of shows, but she showed us there are more important things a dog can do. Schnauzers make fantastic understanding friends when they're needed.
