Poets emerging, ever so slowly

I am excited at the moment. I have joined a brand new poetry/creative writing group, and I have a great feeling that this group will work!
We are a group of writers who have been doing a writing course in Gawler, and a few of us wanted more. I decided I wanted to get together with other writers in a more informal way. This new group will do that, at no cost! No cost is popular with me, I'm a poet, poets don't actually earn money very often.
It's a supportive group, keen to try things, most of us wanting to learn about all kinds of things. That's the way it should be in life, surely. It's not a matter of getting educated as a child and then stop learning. Learning is such an exciting thing, an empowering thing.
Anyway, even though I am in another groups that meets once a month on Thursday nights, it's much further away from where I live, so I will only go there if there's something special on. The Gawler group meets every Thursday night, and I will be there almost every time.
I find that having a group of people who know about what you are doing helps bring your project more to life, and having a group of people who understand the joy in getting a line in poetry just right is fantastic. I love my family, but they don't feel the same way as me, with creative writing. This group does.
I recommend to anyone out there who is writing to find a group that suits them. It is the best and kindest thing you can do for the creative person that you are/aspire to be.
