Kitchen mice
March 16th 2009 00:54
We have mice in our kitchen. They race from under the fridge to under the dish washer, a distance of about a metre and a half. Very cute they are too. Mice are sweet little creatures. If only they didn't poo.
We also have a few dogs, who are interested in the mice, but not quick enough. This is rather disappointing for us, because even though the mice are cute, we'd rather they lived outside, not inside.
Obviously the mice have other ideas. They seem to like it inside our kitchen. We've caught two in traps recently, young mice, out exploring the kitchen counter where there are far too many bits of food. I am not the best homemaker in the world.
I only like the bits of housework that appeal to my creativity. I like cooking, especially when I'm trying new things, or playing with additions to things I cook often. There are lot of bits about muffins on my other Orble blog. I love muffins, and the other two people in the house like muffins too.
Muffins and creativity - sweet, savoury? Healthy, healthier? Will my teenage son like them? Will my husband like them? Will I like them?
It's all fun, and it stretches my creativity in an edible way.
I don't want those mice getting them, I don't want those mice. My dogs had better improve their hunting, otherwise they might not get the loose in the house time they want. They'd better start earning their keep!
Being interested in the mice is not the same as catching and killing the little things.

My son is home from school today and he just saw a mouse by the TV. I've put a trap there where the dogs won't get caught.
We'll see what happens.

But one thing that did work a bit was peppermint oil. Apparently, it's a mouse deterrent. I sprayed it everything. I was worried about that mouse getting inside so I kept spraying it by the back door. Anyway, after a while, i didn't see it again, so I'm presuming the peppermint oil worked. As an added bonus, peppermint oil is apparently great for getting rid of negative thoughts. So if you don't get rid of the mice, you have nice pleasant thoughts about them while they're there!
