As some of you may know, I have self-published a little book and I am slowly finding new homes for the remaining copies of the third print run. When I am out and about, I try to remember to bring a few copies of “Dig It! Gardening Tips for Dogs’ along with me. If the conversation should happen to turn to gardens, or dogs, or self-publishing your own book, I am set, ready for a no pressure sale.
I do it no pressure, because that is who I am and how I work. I am not good at pushing for sales, I want to sell because the other person wants to buy. I have sold ‘Dig It’ for a variety of prices, and I have also swapped my book with other writers – this way I get a copy of their book, they get a copy of my book and we are both happy. I have also given copies away, when I felt it was the right thing to do.
But one problem I have found is what to do with people who just don’t ever carry cash. Out where I live, there aren’t many ATMs, so if someone wants to buy a copy of ‘Dig It!’ and they’re not going to be around again, we miss out. I don’t get the sale, and they don’t get the book, unless I give it to them for free. I have done this, and I’m OK with that, but often people don’t feel comfortable taking things they haven’t paid for.
It’s a problem, but it doesn’t have to be a problem. I have found the answer to the issue.
I thought you had to be big business, and have links to this that and the other to use credit cards to accept payment for things. And I also thought it was expensive to do it. I certainly never thought you could process credit cards with just a nifty little mobile device, easy as anything, easier and quicker than online paypal or other similar methods. With a Merchant Warehouse credit card machine, nobody ever needs to hold cash, all they need is a credit card.
With this device a merchant can run real time transactions with an iPhone or iPod Touch. Think about it, the pizza delivery person can come with your pizza delivery and get your money from you even if you don’t have it in cash. It is easier for you, easy and much safer for the pizza deliverer.
