Which Pet do You Pat?
August 4th 2009 23:37
I'm a dog person, no doubts about that. I've lived with two cats, in earlier years. I have a friend who is a dog breeder and a cat breeder who has children who have had rats and mice as pets.
I failed as a budgie owner, and I'm terrified of getting a bird stuck in my hair, so I don't like free flying pet birds in the house.
I've had and got over a phobia about snakes, and I lived with horses all through my childhood - Dad was a harness horse trainer. The phobia with snakes was interfering with my life so I was glad I got over it - thanks to Simon the snake breeder - once you're held a huge snake and lived you realise they aren't necessarily all dangerous.
My son had an ant farm briefly - the ants were set free by a younger cousin, thanks a lot, not. As a kid we had two rabbits, but now I prefer my rabbits sauteed. There is such a huge range of creatures out there, and there is a huge range of people wanting to love their own creature.
I think pet owning can be the most wonderful thing a person can do. Learning to nurture and love another creature surely is one of the best lessons a child can learn?
Anyway, what is your favourite pet? I
